Expeditions: From insight to impact
Active Philanthropy organises transformative journeys to explore the effects of the climate crisis, accelerate climate action and catalyse the system solutions needed to enable a fair and sustainable future.
Our expeditions provide decision makers from philanthropy, business and civil society with firsthand experience of the impacts of climate change, and inter-connected issues, an in-depth understanding of the latest climate science and offer pathways to transformative solutions. Experience shows that these personal experiences fundamentally change participants’ perception of the climate crisis and strengthen their commitment to act.
“Challenging, insightful, beautiful, moving, spiritually energising. You can’t go through this without rethinking your purposes in life.”
Lord Stephen Green, Former Group Chairman HSBC Holdings PLC and Former Minister of State for Trade and Investment of the UK
Expeditions to unique ecosystems
Our expeditions to unique ecosystems, such as Greenland and the Amazon rainforest, are designed to immerse participants in pristine nature, enabling them to connect with the earth’s system on a deep personal level.
- Guided by resident scientists, participants explore how the climate crisis affects both human and ecological wellbeing.
- Participants discuss their role in driving progress toward a Net Zero future, and potential pathways for collaborative action.
- Time spent in pristine wilderness, combined with scientific insights and discussions with local partners – including indigenous communities – deepens participant’s understanding and commitment to act.
These immersive experiences inspire participants to address the root causes and impacts of the climate crisis.
“I went to Greenland thinking it was a practical imperative to deal with climate change. I came away feeling it’s a moral imperative.”
David Gergen, Former Advisor to four US Presidents, Harvard Kennedy School
Solutions expeditions
Our solutions expeditions provide an in-depth exploration of the systemic transformations needed to address the climate crisis over the next 20 years.
- We focus on key ecosystems and industries, such as decarbonising the built environment and transitioning to green steel.
- Site visits to cutting-edge solutions are a core component of the expeditions, enabling participants to gain firsthand insights into different innovative approaches.
- The expeditions also feature conversations with pioneering leaders and experts on the social, economic and political pathways needed to scale these solutions.
These experiences equip participants with the knowledge and inspiration to fund transformative solutions.
“A more important, inspirational, heartbreaking and hopeful experience will be very hard to find. I am not the same person today as I was 4 days ago. I will do everything I can to contribute to climate change mitigation.”
Fanny Forsell, Jonas and Christina af Jochnick Foundation AB
